WORLD WAR II MUSEUM

PONGPOL PUANGNIYOM
PROGRAM IN ARCHITECTURE, FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE
SILPAKORN UNIVERSITY

World War II greatly affected Thai people in terms of loss of life and property as well as the condition of the mind. The air attacks were especially damaging to the community such as the Baan Bu community in Bangkok Noi. The unfortunate occurrence has led to the establishment of a war memorial that tells the story of the ways in which Thai people suffered during and following the war, including violations of human rights and so that led to sweeping changes in the society at that time, through the use of story-telling via spaces, pathways and activities that intend to commemorate the war victims. This project studies the design of the memorial museum that hosts activity spaces telling the story of World War II and also studies ways to narrate the story through architectural space so as to deliver collective memory to the visitor. This project further includes a WWII Archive as part of the program as well.
